oh for just one sip of you
i’d lay down and die
i would shed my life
for your holy wine
love so gritty and true
get lost in the forest of you
and still not know who you are
if only i got over my fear
and my ignorance
then maybe i could get a glimpse
anything for just a drink of you
anything for just a drop in that river
just to know one thought in your mind
i would shed my life

“Crickets”
Outside crickets are singing about the end of the summer
And I‘m not ready to let go
No, I didn’t get all the things I wanted this time
See you slipping away might have been something said
I know sometimes I can be an asshole
I know sometimes I just don’t get it right
Just give me a chance
Put a guard around my mouth this time I’ll be silent
Bury me in the cold ground let the snow fall on it
Maybe we can skip to the end and I can let it die
Even though there was no start, no beginning
Make myself belong to dreams with nothing in them
My face too wrinkled underneath this mask there’s no use trying
I’m too much of a truth teller now to start lying
It’s the end of summer I didn’t get all the things I wanted…
Eerie tune. Not sure why it turned out that way. I assure you, I wrote and recorded a couple more tonight that were different. But decided to post the wild card one. You can hear a lot of rain tapping at the window next to where I recorded. It kind of adds to the floaty vibe of this tune.
“man on the shore”
there’s a man on the shore
and he came up out of the sea
and i tried to touch
the end of his robe
and he said he came to heal
the sick and give to the poor
holy, holy ocean
wash over me
i looked him in the eyes
and i told him i don’t believe
and he gave to me some wine
and we rolled up our sleeves
holy, holy jesus
a kiss he gave to me
and we danced on the water
on that perfect sea
i told him i just can’t believe
he smiled at me and gave me a key
to a box full of secrets
and no one else could see
“naked legs”
oh heaven, i was lying between your naked legs last night.
and you told me you were crying but i didn’t see a tear from your eyes.
oh heaven, i was lying between your naked legs last night.
new song “Sea of Lights”
I’ve been disappearing in these places
I’ve been disappearing in a sea of lights
And I wake up the next morning
Saying I will never drink again, I will never drink again
Then it’s off to the same mistake
And I’m dancing around in a sea of lights
And I wake up the next morning
Saying that I’m finally over you, I’m finally over you
Then it’s off to the same obsession
I swear that I saw you in a sea of lights
And I wake up the next morning
Singing I will never love again, I will never love again
I just recorded this in my apartment. A cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. I’m gonna do a version of this song at my show on June 17 and it’s so fitting cause I’m playing a gorgeous historic cathedral. Come out!

*This recording is rough, you can hear my headphones clicking while I was moving :-)
A new acappella song called “On and On and On and On” built on a vocal loop. Creepy, ethereal piece. Enjoy.

A song called “The Sikh.” I was on a plane to LA this summer and was sitting next to a Sikh from India. He was an old man with silver hair and alarming blue eyes. We had an interesting conversation. This song is about my encounter with this person on the plane.
i sat on a plane next to a sikh
and he told me about the love of god
and i asked for his blue eyes to turn to me
when the plane was shaking in the sky
oh my heart was shaking when he told me
about the love of god
his hair was gathered in a mountain on top of his head
like a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes
like jesus all wrapped up in white
and he laughed like jolly old santa clause
and i asked for his blue eyes to turn to me
when the plane was shaking in the sky
oh my heart was shaking when he told me
about the love of god
behind him the window to the sky
as blue and as bright as his eyes
and i asked for his eyes to turn to me
when the plane was shaking in the sky
oh my heart was shaking when he told me
about the love of god
oh the plane was shaking in the sky was shaking like my heart
oh his eyes were as blue as the sky made me fall apart
will you hold me together will you hold me together now
will you hold me together will you hold me together now
and i asked for his blue eyes to turn to me
when the plane was shaking in the sky
oh my heart was shaking when he told me
about the love of god
the love of god
the love of god
the love of god
the love of god
I posted a status asking people for lyrics or song ideas. This idea came from Austin Patrick O’Laughlin, thanks Austin! Here is what he submitted to me as the idea:
it’s just the same routine/bagel coffee cream/work from 9 to sleep/ get me out of here
So this is what I came up with. Enjoy.
“Get Me Out of Here”
Bagels coffee cream
Working 9-5 then sleep
These are the things dreams are made of
If you could only see
I’m living on a memory
The past is where the future comes from
Just the same routine, You got me on my knees, Get me out of here
The clock says he’s my friend
Will tick and tock until the end
And keep going when I’m gone
And everything will change
And every season rearranges
You can’t hang on for too long
Just the same routine, You got me on my knees, Get me out of here
“Living My Dream”
This is a stream of consciousness song. I started recording and playing and had no clue what I was gonna sing. It got nerve wracking in some parts cause I wanted to have one take from top to bottom without pausing but just to let whatever words come to mind be the song. The fourth line of every verse is where I always got scared I wouldn’t make it through the song. Anyway, here is the whole song, made up as the tape rolled. (Crank up the volume, I recorded very quiet, sorry)
It’s cold in California
I’ve been to this same room
The fourth floor by the window
It smells just like you
Someone else is living my dream…
I’ve seen those golden plains
In the middle of the country
That year I ran away
To find myself somewhere
Someone else was living my dream…
You called me today
You only had one word to say
I told you I feel better
When you go away
Someone else is living my dream…
And I don’t miss the south
Where I used to drive
For miles and miles and hours and hours in those fields where
Someone else is living my dream…
This tune is a run-on sentence, stream of consciousness about a memory from a while ago. It’s like writing out a story for a blog, but singing it. Enjoy.
Do you remember how I went running out of the banquet hall, my dress kicked up wildly like foaming sea waves about my legs and how afraid I was of flashing all the guests and how you ran after me saying “wait, wait, stay a bit longer” and the clock made his voice known and the angry man at the bottom of the stairs ordered me home and you stood with me outside in the wind as the egyptian air turned my dress into a wild tossing wave again and we would always say goodbye in dramatic ways like this always wishing we had kissed and how that elusive kiss just flies on that violent air somewhere in some other land we’ve never been to and probably never will go to anyway, how that kiss just flies in the air around some other girl’s dress somewhere in the world in some other party and maybe someone else will catch that kiss that was meant for me and you and someone will get the things that we wanted for ourselves, so what are we to do now, just remember, somehow like when I see that dress hanging in my closet still as a lake not tossing around like a wave, just still like a mirror for me to see the memory, memory, memory of you.
